VINNYTSIA - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko deems the events, which happened in the center of Kyiv on the second anniversary of the execution of activists on Kyiv's Maidan, to be an unsuccessful provocation staged by Russia.

“The Kremlin propaganda did everything to make this day [the anniversary of the execution of the Heavenly Hundred] look different. That is why they prepared Maidan 3.0 slogans in advance. But their provocation failed. The Ukrainians proved to be responsible despite the objective difficulties,” Poroshenko told reporters in Vinnytsia on Feb. 22.

He was asked to assess the events, which happened in the center of Kyiv on the anniversary of the Revolution of Dignity marked in Ukraine in the third week of February.

Every event planned for the second anniversary of the Kyiv Maidan aimed to commemorate the deceased, and the fact that Kyiv residents did not support the recent protests on Independence Square “vividly demonstrated that Maidan and the Revolution of Dignity were performed by responsible people who wanted Ukraine to be reformed, the Maidan values to be implemented, and Ukraine to advance towards Europe,” Poroshenko said.

“For me personally, the people’s assembly on Sofia Square to protect the national police, which outnumbered any provocateurs dozens of times, was the symbol of yesterday,” he said.

“This does not mean that people are blind to the shortcomings, but they are protecting the reforms,” Poroshenko said.
