You're reading: Poroshenko against resignation of current Ukraine leaders

Ukrainian presidential candidate Petro Poroshenko believes it is undesirable today to push for the resignation of the country's current leaders, including Verkhovna Rada speaker and acting president Oleksandr Turchynov.

“The country is living without its supreme commander-in-chief. It is just two and a half weeks left before the elections. The country is on fire today. And when a house is ablaze, one is not beating firefighters, but is combating the blaze. And only after the fire is extinguished, should one start to investigate people’s actions during the fire,” Poroshenko said in the Ukrainian parliament on Tuesday.

“Instigating or encouraging these processes would only serve to further destabilize the situation,” he said.

Poroshenko, however, supported a reshuffle in the regions’ law enforcement services.
