After Ukrainian member of parliament Nadia Savchenko has returned to Ukraine, the release of Ukrainians Yuriy Soloshenko and Hennadiy Afanasiev, who have been convicted in Russia, will follow, President Petro Poroshenko has said.

“This is only the first step. I can already say what is coming, the release of Soloshenko and Afanasyev who have very severe health conditions – cancer and sepsis,” he said at a meeting of the National Reforms Council on May 25.

The head of state also predicted progress in the return of Ukrainian prisoners, who are held in occupied territory of Donbas. “We expect that there will be some progress within three to four weeks, at the latest,” he said.

According to the president, all this was made possible thanks to the Minsk agreements.
