You're reading: Poroshenko pledges to double cash allowance for contract soldiers, army officers starting from January

TERNOPIL - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that in compliance with the 2016 State Budget, the monetary allowance of the servicemen of the national Armed Forces will double.

“Within the scope of the adopted budget, it is planned to raise by more than two times the monetary allowance for servicemen on military service contracts, starting from this month, and also by two times for officers on military service,” Poroshenko said during his visit to a military unit in Ternopol on Jan. 11.

The state budget also provides for a considerable improvement of monetary allowance for new conscripts, he revealed.

In addition, the head of state said that it is planned to procure more than 2,000 new and modernized weapons and military equipment pieces this year and also do repairs of more than 1,500 pieces of weapons and military equipment.

“We are planning to ensure establishment of proper conditions for recruiting contract soldiers in the Ukrainian Armed Forces, increasing the level of social safeguards and other incentives for the military,” Poroshenko said.

He also revealed that the reform of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces will continue this year in compliance with the standards applicable in NATO member states.
