Ukrainian and Russian Presidents Petro Poroshenko and Vladimir Putin acknowledged during a telephone conversation on Sept. 6 that the Donbas ceasefire declared on Sept. 5 is by and large being complied with, and discussed steps to ensure a stable nature of this process, the Ukrainian president's press office said on Sept. 7.

“The two heads of state acknowledged that that the ceasefire regime is by and large being complied with. Petro Poroshenko and Vladimir Putin discussed steps to lend a durable nature to the ceasefire,” the statement said.

The parties stressed the need for maximum involvement of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in monitoring the situation and ceasefire control, as well as ways of cooperating in delivering Ukrainian and international humanitarian aid, the press office said.

At its meeting in Minsk on Sept. 5, the Contact Group signed a protocol on immediate ceasefire in eastern Ukraine from 18:00 Kyiv time. The protocol, whose full content is still unknown, contains 12 points and involves, in particular, prisoner exchange, humanitarian aid delivery, and monitoring of the ceasefire regime on the border.
