Ukrainian presidential candidate Petro Poroshenko says members of elections commissions representing him in the Luhansk region have been freed.

Speaking at a press conference in Chernihiv on Friday, Poroshenko once again told journalists that Serhiy Nesterov, his representative in Makiivka, the Donetsk region, had been assaulted by three unidentified men after he had met with the election commission members.

“They attacked him, shot in his foot and broke his nose and ribs with a baseball bat,” Poroshenko said.

Nesterov is currently at intensive care in serious condition, he said.

“Fortunately, nothing threatens his life, although he has suffered very seriously,” Poroshenko said.

The head of an election commission in the Luhansk region, “an IT specialist servicing the elections commission, and an election commission member” were freed, he said.

Poroshenko said his associates who were freed are in a state of psychological stress but have assured him already that they were willing to continue working.
