Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a law No. 1661-VII "On amendments to the several Ukrainian laws on the social protection of persons awarded the Order of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred."

This law regulates the payments of the pensions, benefits and social guarantees to those who were awarded this order, the president reported on its Web site.

The Verkhovna Rada adopted this law, which was proposed by the President, on Sept. 2.

The Order will be introduced “to award individuals for civic courage, patriotism, defending the constitutional principles of democracy, human rights and liberties, active charitable, humanistic and public work in Ukraine, the selfless service to the Ukrainian people, and the merits demonstrated during the Revolution (November 2013 – February 2014) and other events involving the defense of the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.”

The law of Ukraine on pensions for meritorious service to Ukraine to the people awarded by the Order of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred was also amended.

The law comes into effect on the day it was published.

The Heavenly Hundred is the name given to those who were killed in clashes between supporters and opponents of Ukraine’s European integration between November 2013 and February 2014.
