The State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine has said that video surveillance cameras have been installed in Ukrzaliznytsia's Central Clinical Hospital No.5 in Kharkiv only in the ward of former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, and in a hospital corridor.

"The State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine refutes a misleading statement made by Tymoshenko’s lawyer about the presence of CCTV cameras in clinical procedure rooms. These cameras have been installed only in the patient’s ward and in the corridor," the service’s press office reported.

The statement also noted that food parcels from relatives were delivered to Tymoshenko in the manner prescribed by the law, at 1600.

The press service said video surveillance in prisoners’ rooms was conducted solely on the basis of, and in accordance with, the requirements of Article 103 of the Criminal Executive Code of Ukraine. This code and other regulations do not prohibit the video surveillance of the behavior of prisoners around the clock, and, in addition, "the use of video surveillance is not contrary to European prison rules."

As reported, Tymoshenko’s defense lawyer, Serhiy Vlasenko, said that video surveillance cameras had been installed in Tymoshenko’s ward and a clinical procedure room.
