You're reading: Prosecutor General: Police were complicit in Odesa unrest

The May 2 unrest in Odesa was planned in advance and police officers were complicit in these events, Ukraine's Acting Prosecutor General Oleh Makhnitsky has said.

“Today, we can say that this was a planned event… We can currently speak not only of the inactivity [of the police], but of their complicity,” Makhnitsky said in an interview with Channel 5 on Tuesday evening.

He stressed that there are videos and photos that show that “the police did nothing at all.” “There was an agreement between the police and bandits,” he said.

It was reported that at least 46 people were killed and over 200 injured during mass disturbances and a fire in Odesa on May 2.
