You're reading: Prosecutor: Tymoshenko may get new charges

Ukraine's prosecutor general announced on Thursday that alleged evidence of financial offenses by the former Cabinet might lead to further charges against ex-prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

"There remain records of preliminary investigations at the SBU [Ukrainian Security Service], to which a legal qualification will be given," Viktor Pshonka told reporters.

He said this might result in what would be the fourth set of criminal proceedings against Tymoshenko, who is accused of offenses in overseeing vaccine purchases during an epidemic.

Pshonka said, however, that government officials besides Tymoshenko were also targets of the investigations he was referring to.

"All that was illegally taken from the state will be returned to the state," the prosecutor said.

"It’s very correct that there are lawsuits," he said. "This confirms the illegality of activities by officials who were taking part in various decisions."
