You're reading: Prosecutors: Landik remains in custody in Krasnodar Krai in Russia

The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) of Ukraine has confirmed that a member of Luhansk City Council, Roman Landik, remains in custody at the Russian Federal Penalty Execution Service in Krasnodar Krai.

Earlier some media reported that Landik was had allegedly been released from detention in the Russian Federation, although this is not true, according to the press service of the PGO.

The PGO noted that their Russian colleagues are considering the Ukrainian side’s inquiry on extraditing the deputy so he can go on trial in Ukraine.

"The international legal department of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine is monitoring this case," the press service added.

The prosecutor’s office of Luhansk region earlier reported that Landik was detained not far from Krasnodar in Russia. On July 19, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine sent a request to Russia’s PGO asking it to extradite Landik to Ukraine.

As reported, the prosecutor’s office of Luhansk region opened a criminal case against member of Luhansk City Council Roman Landik on charges of disorderly conduct (Part 3 of Article 296) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on July 7.

Earlier media reported that Landik had beaten up a young woman in a restaurant. This incident was recorded on CCTV and the video posted on the Internet.

The injured woman, aged 20, was hospitalized with concussion and bruises.

Landik was expelled from the Regions Party and from the party’s faction in Luhansk council.

Roman Landik is the son of Volodymyr Landik, a member of the Regions Party faction in Ukraine’s parliament.
