You're reading: Prosecutors, SBU officers searching Boryspil Airport premises

Kyiv prosecutors jointly with agents from the SBU Security Service of Ukraine on July 26 are conducting searches in the premises of state-run Boryspil Airport as part of an investigation into criminal proceedings on fact of large-scale embezzlement of budget funds during state procurements.

“It has been established that the state enterprise in December 2015 held a tender to buy explosives trace detectors following which it bought four such devices worth Hr 4.3 million from a private enterprise, which won the tender,” the press service of the Kyiv prosecution office.

The documents provided by the winner say that the devices were manufactured by a company from the Czech Republic, yet, the investigators revealed that a Russian company founded by a citizen of the Russian Federation is the direct manufacturer.

What is more, it was established that the price of each of the detectors is about Hr 200,000, but the airport paid four times more.

“Documents and other evidence confirming the unlawful deal have been seized from Boryspil Airport’s premises, the office of the winner company and at houses belonging to the participants in the scam,” the prosecutor’s office said.

“The investigation is under way,” it said.

As was earlier reported, SBU officers raided the premises of the State Aviation Service of Ukraine on July 26 in line with criminal proceedings, violated under Article 191 Part 5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine in respect of certain officials of the International Boryspil airport. These officials, with the assistance of the State Aviation Service officials, committed embezzlement of budget funds allocated for the purchase of equipment in the amount of Hr 4.3 million.

According to it, later the funds were transferred to the company, controlled by a resident of the Russian Federation, followed by withdrawal from Ukraine in violation of the order of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 829 r dated September 11, 2014.
