You're reading: Protest forces threaten Crimean deputies – autonomy’s legislature

The Presidium of Crimea's Supreme Council has said that the protest forces who are currently controlling most of Ukraine have put pressure on local parliamentarians and their family members, as well as have intimidated and blackmailed them.

“Lists of “people’s enemies” who committed “crimes against humanity” are being compiled. In reality, most people from these lists committed their only crime by having voiced and by continuing to voice their opinion concerning the political situation in the country that is different from the opinion of those who call themselves authorities today,” the Presidium said in a statement, circulated by the Crimean Parliament’s press center on Monday.

“These methods are far from being democratic, although politicians who are using them call themselves democrats. They fail or refuse to understand that the path of ultimatums and threats will not help end the crisis in the country, but will only serve to further increase the confrontation in society, as well as between the center and the regions,” according to the statement.
