Russian President Vladimir Putin and British Prime Minister David Cameron have discussed the situation in Ukraine by telephone, the Kremlin press office said on April 30. "The conversation focused especially on the crisis in Ukraine. The Russian president emphasized, in particular, the paramount importance of swift and unconditional compliance by the authorities in Kyiv with the provisions of the Geneva Statement of April 17, 2014, for de-escalation of tensions in the country," the statement said.

“The Russian and British leaders agreed that the acute political standoff can only be resolved peacefully,” the Kremlin said.

The conversation took place at the British side’s request. “It was agreed to continue the bilateral exchange of opinions at various levels,” the statement said.
