 Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have discussed by telephone "various aspects of the situation in Ukraine, including the possibilities of international assistance to restore stability," the Kremlin press office said in a statement on Monday.

“Putin has emphasized the importance of holding constitutional reform
in the country orientated at ensuring the rightful interests of
residents of all Ukrainian regions,” the document said.

“When exchanging opinions on Transdniestria, the Russian leader said
it was necessary to take efficient measures to lift the virtual external
blockade of the region and search for a fair and comprehensive solution
to Transdniestria’s issues,” the press office said.

According to information by the press office, Putin and Merkel have
agreed to continue close bilateral contacts at different levels on the
topics.

The conversation was held upon Russia’s initiative, the press office said.
