Ukraine has the right to respond with force in connection with the crash of a Mi-8 helicopter belonging to the Ukrainian armed forces, which was shot down by militants near Sloviansk on June 24, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Australia to the United Nations (UN) Gary Quinlan says.

Australia is aware that Ukraine’s armed forces would use force as
self-defense, and they have every right to do this, he said at a meeting
of the UN Security Council on June 24.

A report about the downed helicopter is “bad news,” he said.

Quinlan also called on the sides concerned to enforce the truce in the east of Ukraine.
