Ukrainian MP Anatoly Kinakh of the Regions Party has proposed that the Verkhovna Rada make an appeal concerning energy security guarantees to the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

"There is a proposal to the Verkhovna Rada to send an appeal to the State Duma of the Russian Federation, which will clearly indicate the position of our state, to give the guarantees of a reliable energy transit country once again," he said during a plenary session of parliament on Wednesday.

Kinakh said the document should include a call for joining efforts "to find a balance between the interests of the supplier (Russia, Central Asia), the transit country (Ukraine) and the consumers (the EU)."

After the lawmaker’s speech, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn asked the parliament’s office to prepare a relevant appeal to the State Duma and the European Parliament.
