A summit bringing together leaders from the European Union and Ukraine is scheduled for today in Brussels. 

“This summit takes place at an important moment in our relations,” said European Union president Herman Van Rompuy. “There is now a historic opportunity to make a breakthrough in EU-Ukraine relations.”

Topping the agenda is an association agreement between the EU and Ukraine. The deal would open up trade between the EU and Ukraine, the first of its kind. The EU has held up finalizing the deal until Ukraine implements certain reforms, including changes to ensure free elections, and an end to “selective justice.”
