Ukraine is marking the 27th anniversary of the accident at the Chornobyl nuclear plant.
Memorial and prayer services are scheduled to be held in Kyiv and other big cities in Ukraine.
The explosion at Reactor No. 4 at Chornobyl on April 26, 1986, released radioactivity into the air that was 500 times greater than the amount of radioactivity released by the nuclear bomb detonated over Hiroshima in 1945.
Chornobyl was the worst civilian nuclear disaster in history.
