Several thousand businessmen came to Freedom Square in Kharkiv to protest the adoption of the tax code on Monday.

The organizers of the rally are the Businessmen’s Union, the Kharkiv Businessmen’s Club, and the Taxi Driver’s Union.

Some protesters are holding flags of the opposition parties Batkivschyna and the People’s Movement of Ukraine.

According to the law enforcement agencies, the protest has some 1,000 participants, whereas the rally organizers estimate the number of protesters to be at least 5,000.

Oleksandr Sharmar, the head of the Kharkiv City Union Businessmen’s Organization, got some 3,000 signatures in support of the reversal of the new tax code.

"If the document is not vetoed, we will collect signatures in favor of a national referendum on the resignation of the Cabinet and the parliament and early presidential and parliamentary elections," Sharmar said.

A similar protest is currently being held in Kyiv, where some 5,000 businessmen have come to Kyiv’s central square Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) to protest the adoption of the new tax code. The protesters in Kyiv are making the same demands as those in Kharkiv.
