The Russian Central Elections Commission (CEC) will be ready to consider an invitation to send its observers to the referendum on the status of Crimea if it receives such an invitation, Russian Central Elections Commission Secretary Nikolai Konkin told reporters on Wednesday responding to a question about the agency's plans on the observation of the referendum in Crimea.

According to earlier reports, the presidium of the Supreme Council of
Crimea has backed the initiative to change the date of the republic’s
referendum on issues relating to the improvement of the status and
powers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea to Mar. 30, 2014.

The permanent commission of the Supreme Council of Crimea on
legislative activities and liaison with the public has ordered the
preparation of a decree of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous
Republic of Crimea amending Decree No. 1630-6/14 ‘On the Organization of
the Republic’s (Local) Referendum on Issues Relating to the Improvement
of the Status and Powers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea’ issued
by the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea on Feb.
27, which changes the date of the referendum from May 25 to Mar. 30.
