MOSCOW - The Russian Foreign Ministry is to submit to the Ukrainian Embassy in Moscow a diplomatic note with the request to tell the number of the Russian nationals currently kept in prisons in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Ministry Special Representative for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law Konstantin Dolgov said.

“We don’t know the exact number of our citizens who are [incarcerated] in Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry is to send a diplomatic note in this regard to the Ukrainian Embassy in Moscow to officially request thereby to give us a comprehensive information to contain the exact number of the Russian citizens who are currently in Ukrainian prisons,” Dolgov said at June 29 meeting of the workgroup set up at Russia’s State Duma to analyze legislative acts adopted in Ukraine.

The workgroup is led by State Duma Chairman Sergei Naryshkin.

“Naturally, we reiterate that Ukrainian authorities ought to strictly perform the respective international obligations and bilateral obligations,” Dolgov said.
