You're reading: Russian killed during arrest in Kharkiv region

A Russian man, who hijacked a car and wounded a policeman, has been killed in the town of Zmiiv, Kharkiv region, a spokesperson for the Kharkiv regional police said.

There were two attempts to arrest the hijacker. The first time he
managed to escape, having wounded one of the law enforcers as they tried
to catch him. The second time he opened fire.

“The perpetrator started shooting at the law enforcers and tried to
throw a grenade in their direction… In this situation a special police
battalion fighter had to open fire. The perpetrator died from the bullet
injury on the spot,” Kharkiv police chief Anatoliy Dmytriyev said,
according to the spokesperson.

Currently, investigators are conducting initial investigative
procedures that involve gathering evidence. Experts have seized the
man’s weapons and firearm. He has already been identified: he is a
Russian citizen. The inquiry continues.
