Chief Coach of FC Shakhtar Donetsk Mircea Lucescu will stay in a hospital in Bucharest since the injuries received in a car accident do not allow his transfer to any other place.
Romanian media reported that Shakhtar Donetsk President Rinat Akhmetov offered to take Lucescu to Donetsk by plane.
"At the moment, Romanian doctors at the hospital, where the coach was taken, haven’t made a final decision on how to treat Mister (Lucescu’s nickname)," the press service of the Ukrainian football club reported.
The Romanian coach of Shakhtar has seven ribs broken on the left side of his chest, some of the ribs are broken in several places. He has a bruised lung. There is blood in his pleural cavity.
"The possibility of surgery is being considered. In other words, doctors should decide whether an operation and fixing broken ribs with corresponding medical devices is necessary. Besides, the pleural cavity is being monitored, if the amount of blood increases, the drainage may be installed, or a surgery conducted," the statement reads.
According to rough estimates, a full recovery of Lucescu may take up to six weeks.
At present, a winter break continues in the Ukrainian football championship. Matches will resume on March 3.
