The killer of businessman Yevhen Shcherban, Vadym Bolotskykh, will not change his testimony to point to the former prime ministers of Ukraine, Yulia Tymoshenko and Pavlo Lazarenko, as those, who ordered the killing, lawyer Dmytro Poyezd, who defended Bolotskykh during the pre-trial investigation in 2001–2003, said in an interview with the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia (Mirror Weekly).

Asked whether the killer decided to change his testimony, the lawyer said: "Bolotskykh will tell them to clear off. He is waiting to be transferred to Russia and understands that they will keep him safe and he will live until he gives testimony against Lazarenko and Tymoshenko."

"He has a chance to mark time, and he knows it… So, the prosecutor’s office won’t get anything here – Bolotskykh will not give false testimony," Poyezd said in an interview published on Saturday.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine is investigating into possible involvement of Tymoshenko in the killing of Donetsk businessman Shcherban.

In 1996 MP Shcherban was shot dead by a group of people in Donetsk airport upon his arrival from Moscow. As a result, the MP, his wife and mechanic died. A flight engineer died in a hospital due to a gunshot wound to the neck.

At a press conference on April 4, Shcherban’s son, Yevhen, said that he had passed to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine documents on the possible involvement of former Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko and former Ukrainian Premier Pavlo Lazarenko in the murder of his father.
