You're reading: Some 200 CIS observers to come to Ukraine for parliamentary elections

The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is planning to send some 200 observers to the upcoming parliamentary elections in Ukraine.

Head of the CIS Observation Mission Yevgeniy Sloboda said this, according to the media liaisons department of the secretariat of the Central Elections Commission (CEC).

Sloboda said that the key task of the 200 CIS observers would to examine the use of the election legislation in practice, and to make an evaluation of it.

“The mission will include diplomats from the CIS, higher level deputies, as well as members of election commission from the member states of the CIS,” he said at a working meeting with CEC Deputy Chair Zhanna Usenko-Chorna.

The mission will open its headquarters in Kyiv on October 1, while long-term observers will start work long before this date.

The mission will be focused on the election process in the capital and in the regions, where the CIS observers will be evenly represented.

The parliamentary elections in Ukraine are scheduled for October 28, 2012.
