MOSCOW - Measures to separate the parties to the conflict on the contact line in Donbas involve removing combat units on both sides to a distance necessary to avoid provocations, a source in the security subgroup told Interfax.

“The discussion focused on which areas the parties will be retreating from the currently occupied positions, since the removal of heavy weaponry failed to secure stability,” the subgroup said.

The negotiators also discussed the parties’ responsibility for violating the truce, he said.

“A party responsible for violating the truce will be compelled to remove its units from the current positions within a clearly designated distance. It is expected that the OSCE [Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe] will assume responsibility for overseeing this matter. It will clearly indicate who carried out shelling and from where, and thus violated the truce,” the source said.

Earlier on June 29 the OSCE special representative, Martin Sajdik, told reporters in Minsk that the security subgroup of the Trilateral Group on Ukraine had agreed on separating forces and means on the contact line in two locations of Donbas.
