KHARKIV – A room is being prepared in Ukrzaliznytsia's Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 in Kharkiv, where former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is undergoing treatment, so the ex-prime minister can participate in court sessions via videoconferencing, sources close to medical circles have told Interfax-Ukraine.

The ex-premier’s defense lawyer, Serhiy Vlasenko, has indirectly confirmed this.

“According to my information from sources alternative to the media:
yes, they are preparing for this,” he told Interfax-Ukraine on Friday.

At the same time, Vlasenko said that participation in court sessions
via videoconferencing is not envisaged under the current legislation.

“Participation in court sessions via videoconferencing is not
envisaged by the current legislation. The Criminal Procedure Code
foresees the use of videoconferencing in order to conduct separate
investigative actions. However, participation is possible only with the
written consent of a person,” Vlasenko said.

He said that in the case of Tymoshenko’s participation in court
sessions via videoconferencing, her right to a defense would be
violated.
