You're reading: Surkis believes Ukraine will be worthy host Euro 2012

There is every reason to believe that on June 8, 2012 Ukraine and the UEFA will properly celebrate a holiday of European football – the Euro 2012 European Football Championship, President of the Football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) Hryhoriy Surkis said in an interview with the Sport-Express in Ukraine newspaper, the text of which has been released by the FFU press service.

Surkis said that a year before the tournament all those involved in the preparations for hosting Euro 2012 have clearly synchronized their work and are giving an example of coordinated teamwork.

"The current model of the vertical power structure, which is governed by head of state Viktor Yanukovych, has demonstrated its effectiveness in practice.

That’s why the results of activity of the profile governmental manager for infrastructure, Vice Premier Borys Kolesnikov, are really impressive.

All this gives reason to believe that on June 8, 2012 Ukraine and the UEFA will properly celebrate a holiday of European football," he said.

The FFU president said that in the lobby of the recently held FIFA congress he discussed the current state of preparations for hosting the tournament with UEFA President Michel Platini.

"The president was businesslike, confident and calm," Surkis said, and noted that this talk, in an extended format, with the participation of the UEFA supervisory council, will be continued on June 15.

"I sincerely hope that by this time each of my colleagues – the members of the official Ukrainian delegation – will manage to find a significant number of forcible arguments for today’s optimistic mood of the UEFA head to remain until the final whistle of the European championship, which will solemnly sound at the National Olympiysky Sports Complex in about a year," Surkis said.

At the same time, Surkis said he believes that the 2012 election campaign due to parliamentary elections would in no way affect the tournament.
