The Russian authorities are trying to obtain and send valuable exhibits from the museums of Crimea to those of Russia, Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Sych has said.

“Certain exhibits from Crimean museums were on display abroad and
there were attempts by Russian authorities to send them directly to
Hermitage and other Russian museums instead of back to Crimea,” he said
during the press conference in Kyiv on Monday.

According to the deputy prime minister, certain amendments to laws
have been made so that the Culture Ministry of Ukraine can manage these
valuable objects.

In addition Sych said there was an initiative to restore the status
of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory as central executive
agency.
