The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine, which has opened a criminal case against second President of Ukraine (1994-2005) Leonid Kuchma on the murder of journalist Georgy Gongadze, should bring it to a logical end, Leader of the Communist Party of Ukraine Petro Symonenko has said.

"They opened the criminal case and they have to report on its results – either send it to court, or admit that it was opened by mistake," Symonenko told Interfax-Ukraine.

He said that the Prosecutor General’s Office has to bring everything connected with the completion of the case on the murder of Gongadze to a logical end "no matter who took what position."

"This is obvious for me," the politician said.

"We can make conclusions only when they answer this question: How did the investigation of this criminal case end?" he added.

According to Symonenko, making any assumptions today means putting pressure on the Prosecutor General’s Office.

He said he regretted that Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have "turned into a [tool] of the political system."
