Ukrainian Communist Party leader Petro Symonenko has promised to nationalize the strategic branches of the country's industry if his party wins the upcoming parliamentary elections.

“The strategic branches of industry will be nationalized, and an
audit of all transactions on the transfer of state enterprises to
private ownership will be conducted,” he said at the 45th extraordinary
congress of the Communist Party of Ukraine in Kyiv on Monday.

He said that nationalization would not be complete and that it would concern only the basic branches of industry.

The parliamentary election campaign in Ukraine began on July 30. The elections are scheduled for October 28.
