On April 26, 1986, Ukraine was rocked by a nuclear accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Twenty-five years later, several Texas Tech professors still remember the tragedy. Carleton Phillips, professor of biological sciences, said Ukraine was a republic in the Soviet Union at the time of the accident. He said the Soviet Union tried to hide the accident from the rest of the world since it was so secretive about everything, including the location of its nuclear power plants. Read the story here.
