A court in the Ukrainian city Donetsk has confirmed the regional status of the Russian language, dismissing a claim that such status is illegal.

The protest has been lodged by organizations seeking to oust Russian as a spoken language from Ukraine. In July this year, the Ukrainian Parliament adopted a law to grant Russian a regional status in the country’s regions where at least 10% of the population sees it as native.
