 Violence between protesters and police turned deadly in Kyiv, with the government warning that it will use "all legal means" to clear the streets if disturbances continue.

As they lighted fires and threw up new
barricades Tuesday, the security services said that “extremists from the
opposition have crossed the limit—people have been killed on the
streets of the capital of Ukraine.”

The
statement, signed by the head of Ukraine’s security service and
interior ministry, said the government would use “all legal means” at
its disposal in response.

It didn’t
specify what action would be taken, but the government appeared to be
taking steps to seal off the center of Kiev. The city’s subway system
was shut and there were unconfirmed reports from opposition officials
that police were also sealing off roads leading to the capital.
