You're reading: Tigipko: Regions Party has every chance of forming parliamentary majority after elections

Ukrainian Vice Premier and Social Policy Minister and Deputy Chairman of the Regions Party Sergiy Tigipko has said that the ruling party will win at the upcoming parliamentary elections.

“Considering our presence in the majority constituencies, we will
definitely take first place and form the majority [in the parliament],”
he said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

Tigipko said the current tendencies and sociology polls show that the
Regions Party has every change of forming a parliamentary majority on
its own, without the participation of other political forces.

“I think that together with candidates in the majority constituencies, we will form a majority from our party,” Tigipko said.

He also did not rule out that independent deputies from the majority
constituencies would join the Regions Party after the elections.

“I was in parliament and I’m sure that active deputies will not want
to sit aside at the Verkhovna Rada – they will take part in reforming
the country. They know that it is necessary to amend the tax legislation
and continue the deregulation of the economy,” he said.

Asked whether the Regions Party would cooperate with new political
forces that get into parliament, according to sociologists’ forecasts,
particularly Vitali Klitschko’s UDAR Party and the Ukraine-Forward!
Party, Tigipko said: “They have to get in first, and then we’ll see!”

According to Tigipko, the Regions Party and UDAR have different approaches to many problems, particularly the language law.

“There are some issues, which don’t give us a chance to unite with,
for example, UDAR. So, considering the current situation, I don’t see
such a possibility,” he said.

As for the Ukraine-Forward! Party led by Natalia Korolevska, Tigipko
said that he doubts the seriousness of the party’s promises.

“There are too many sportsmen, artists in it, and this fact is so
perturbing, that I have doubts whether its intentions are realistic.
However, we could cooperate in the spheres of sports and culture,” he
said.
