The trade union of nuclear workers predicts delays with the launch of reactors of nuclear power plants (NPPs) after their repair due to the impossibility of paying for fresh fuel. This is linked to the blocking of accounts of National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom.

“We have calculated that we would have the launch of reactors after repair delayed due to the absence of fuel,” Head of the primary trade union organization of Energoatom Oleksiy Lych said at a briefing in Kyiv on May 30.

He said that Russia refuses to produce fuel without advance payments. The Energoatom’s accounts have been arrested by the State Law Enforcement Service and it is possible to pay for fuel.

“We have accumulated $167 million required to buy fresh fuel, but the accounts are blocked,” he said.

Lych said that it will take over 150 days to produce fuel after settling payments.
