You're reading: Turchynov: No government members opposed signing of gas contract with Russia in 2009

The deputy head of the Batkivschyna Party, Oleksandr Turchynov, has said that none of the members of the government led by former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko opposed the signing of a gas contract with Russia in 2009 under the terms agreed by Tymoshenko.

"None of the government members opposed the signing of agreements under the terms agreed by the prime minister. None of them spoke out strongly against it… There was not a single statement [of opposition] or disagreement," he said during his questioning as a witness on Wednesday at a session of the Pechersky District Court on the Russian gas supply contract case.

Turchynov said that all of the ministers understood at that time the situation Ukraine was in and that nobody was against the signing of this agreement.

"Even the ministers appointed by [third Ukrainian President Viktor] Yuschenko [were not against the agreement]," he said.

Turchynov also noted that most government members said that, "[Ukraine] shouldn’t sign [a contract] with a fixed price [for gas]."
