You're reading: Turchynov: Ukrainian opposition split is wishful thinking of Yanukovych Administration

The Ukrainian Batkivschyna United Opposition says it is consolidated but does not rule out 'a purge' of its parliamentary candidates in September.

“The opposition is united; the opposition is working together; the
opposition is headed for the victory,” head of the united opposition’s
central election staff Oleksandr Turchynov told a Monday press
conference. The media said earlier that the united opposition might
split and Front for Change Party Leader Arseniy Yatseniuk and Turchynov
might be crossed out from the lists of candidates.

“These claims are totally unfounded. That is nothing but the
Presidential Administration’s wishful thinking. Their wishes won’t come
true,” he said.

Such reports “are nonsense published by media outlets controlled by the authorities,” Turchynov said.

“We have been through complex preparations for a congress,
unification and negotiations. There are no grounds for such claims now
but provocations of controllable media,” he noted.

Turchynov admitted though that the united opposition leaders “were
sometimes discontent with the work of campaign representatives and
certain staffs in regions.” “So we do not rule out a congress initiated
by the political council to take place in late September for crossing
out [from the candidate list] those who do not work for the opposition,”
he said.
