You're reading: Turchynov: UN authority could help settle situation in Crimea

Ukraine's Rada Speaker and interim president Oleksandr Turchynov has informed UN Deputy General Secretary Jan Eliasson about the situation in the Crimea. 

“I hope the authority of such a respectable organization will help resolve the complicated situation in the Crimea,” Turchynov said, according to the Ukrainian parliament’s press service.

Eliasson said the most important thing now is to jointly forge a diplomatic and political solution.

Eliasson assured Turchynov of the UN’s adherence to the idea of Ukraine’s indivisibility and sovereignty,” the press service quoted Eliasson as saying.
