Ukraine's former Prime Minister and leader of the Batkivschyna Party Yulia Tymoshenko handed a petition to the Prosecutor General's Office on June 14 requesting permission to visit on June 21-22 a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, the politician's press service reported on June 15.

According to Ukrainian legislation, the Prosecutor General’s Office has to give a response within three days, the press service said.

Tymoshenko was banned from travelling outside Kyiv after several criminal charges were brought against her.

Tymoshenko is charged with the misuse of funds received by Ukraine under the Kyoto Protocol, and abuse of office while purchasing Opel Combo vehicles against government guarantees.

In April 2011, the PGO opened a third criminal case against Tymoshenko concerning her exceeding her authority and abusing office in signing gas contracts in 2009.
