Former Ukrainian Prime Minister and Batkivschyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko has said she is concerned that the current government will decide to give away the Ukrainian gas transport system.

"I’m now most concerned with the fact that under the guise of such promotional things as the gas case, they have actually started to give away the main strategic object of our state – the gas transport system," she said during a break in the court hearings on Tuesday, the press office of the Batkivschyna Party reported.

"Now, under the guise of allegedly disadvantageous [gas] contracts, after they gave away the territory for the stationing of the [Russian] Black Sea Fleet, they have begun to give away the gas transport system," Tymoshenko said.

She noted that at her initiative the Verkhovna Rada had passed a law banning the privatization of the gas transport system.

"This law has banned privatization, concession, or any other actions related to the gas transport system," Tymoshenko said.
