The UDAR Party will demand early presidential and parliamentary elections this year if the association agreement with the EU is not signed because of the recent events affecting opposition politicians.

“If recent events in Ukraine prevent the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU, the UDAR Party sees no other choice but to demand a complete change of government in the state through holding early parliamentary and presidential elections later this year,” the party’s press service reported on Monday.

The party insists that the parliament should convene for a special session as soon as possible to consider the situation with the observance of rights of political prisoners, including former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko and former Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko, and address the actions of law enforcement agencies against MPs from the opposition.

“The leadership of the country’s law enforcement agencies has to answer for what is happening in the country,” the party said in the statement.

The UDAR Party demands a report by Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka, Interior Minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko and SBU Chief Oleksandr Yakymenko in parliament concerning the latest events, including the statements about the suspected involvement of Tymoshenko into the killing of MP Yevhen Scherban.
