Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov have discussed the diversification of natural gas supply routes.

“An important topic of the meeting was the cooperation between Ukraine and Bulgaria to strengthen the energy independence of the region, in particular the diversification of gas supply routes to the two states. The two sides criticized the construction of Nord Stream 2,” the Ukrainian president’s press service reported after the meeting.

In addition, Poroshenko and Borisov discussed new opportunities, which will open before Ukraine and Bulgaria in connection with the launch of a free trade area between Ukraine and the European Union. They agreed to speed up the organization of the next meeting of the bilateral intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation in Sofia and a regional business forum.

Poroshenko thanked the Bulgarian government for its position on the implementation of the Minsk agreements and the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine. He also thanked them for the support that the Bulgarian government provides for the rehabilitation of Ukrainian military who took part in the anti-terrorist operations, and children from Donbas.
