You're reading: Ukraine crisis on agenda for Russian Security Council meeting

The Ukraine crisis was on the agenda of a meeting on Thursday of the Russian Security Council that was chaired by President Vladimir Putin.

“We have two issues on the agenda today – one that was planned to be
raised and one that has just arisen. The former is the development of
relations between the Russian Federation and Central American and
Caribbean countries, and the other is – we naturally can’t neglect all
the developments with Ukraine, Crimea, and all that is part of this
difficult problem,” Putin said at the meeting.

“I want to emphasize that it is not our fault that this crisis has
broken out, but we’ve been drawn into it one way or another. I want to
point out that it’s primarily a domestic Ukrainian crisis.
Unfortunately, we all realize that we’ve got drawn into those events ” he said.

“Let’s think together how to build our relations with our partners
and friends in Ukraine and with our other partners in Europe, the United
States,” Putin said.

“But let’s start with the former issue,” he said.
