You're reading: Ukraine ‘may restore border control in Donbas after crisis resolved’

The Russian Foreign Ministry has refuted reports alleging that Russia is prepared to restore Ukraine's control over the border between Russian territory and the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics on the condition that border guards are hired from amongst local residents.

“This information is untrue. The Minsk Package of Measures definitively said that Ukraine’s control over the relevant sector of the Ukrainian-Russian border may be restored only upon the comprehensive settlement of the crisis,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin said in an interview with Profile magazine. He was asked to comment on reports published by the Ukrainian media.
