You're reading: Ukraine pulls out about 550 people from Crimea in navy redeployment

 About 550 Ukrainian servicemen and family members left Sevastopol on Friday, April 4.

 “The personnel from the Ukrainian Navy staff, ships and units of the
Sevastopol Garrison are traveling in one of the convoys,” Ukraine’s
Defense Ministry said in a statement.

“Furthermore, the 101 servicemen of the Southern Naval Base of the
Ukrainian Armed Forces, including 17 members of their families, are
ready for to leave Novoozerny, north of Crimea,” it said.

“The military personnel who are leaving today for mainland Ukraine
are not involved in the redeployment of Ukrainian armaments and material
and technical resources from the peninsula to the mainland,” the
ministry said. “The rest of the personnel remain on Crimean territory
and are ready to carry through the evacuation of military property.”

There are flags of Ukraine and its Navy waving over all the vehicles
carrying the Ukrainian servicemen and members of their families.
