The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has said they are ready to evacuate Ukrainian citizens from Syria if they express such a wish.

“We do not rule out that soon there will be more people who will ask the embassy for evacuation, and we are considering the possibility of holding the next stages of evacuation,” the Foreign Ministry’s spokesman, Yevhen Perebyinis, said at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.

He noted that since 2008, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has conducted more than ten stages of evacuation of Ukrainian citizens from Syria. The Emergencies Ministry of Russia also helped in bringing Ukrainians home.

“Our embassy is constantly monitoring the situation and keeping in touch with our citizens (in Syria),” Perebyinis said.

He also noted that on August 27-28, eight Ukrainians came back from that country. According to him, Russia also helped Ukraine to evacuate its citizens.

According to the Foreign Ministry, some 400 citizens of Ukraine currently remain in Syria.
