The Ukrainian State Emergency Service has received NATO equipment for demining territories in the zone of the special operation in East Ukraine.

An Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reports that the transfer ceremony took place in Kyiv on Thursday.

Sorin Ducaru, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges, who attended the ceremony, said that the equipment was transferred under a NATO program of assisting humanitarian demining in Ukraine launched in July 2015.

He said that, in relation to the project, NATO is also conducting special training for Ukrainian specialists.

Ducaru also said that, in the framework of cooperation between the alliance and Ukrainian government, Ukrainian specialists are involved in various research projects conducted by NATO.

In turn, head of the Ukrainian State Emergency Service Mykola Chechotkin said that the alliance had handed over to Ukraine four Med-Eng protective suits, combined metal detectors, special search frames, tactical goggles, and field life-support means.

“This aid package will help restore the operation of looted pyrotechnical units in Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The entire aid package is meant for four units with a combined personnel of 22 servicemen,” Chechotkin said.
