You're reading: Ukraine to launch military radio next spring

Starting from March 1, 2016, Ukraine will have a radio service for the military, said Oleksiy Makukhin, an advisor to the Ukrainian defense minister.

“It is no secret that our military on the frontline often suffer from information vacuum. That is why there is a need for this radio. Seventy per cent of its content will be music. In addition, there will be news and programs intended for the military, broadcast live, where the military will be able to say hello, order music, tell news stories. There will also be broadcasts with experts and the military,” Makukhin said at a briefing in Kyiv on Friday.

The creation of the radio station will be funded by Spirit of America, a United States charity based in California.

The organization’s founder, Jim Hake, said he decided to allocate funds for this project after visiting the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) zone in Donbas.

Maj. Serhiy Teletytsky, the head of the radio station, said both the studio and its staff will be based in Kyiv.

The content will be transmitted via satellite in the FM-band.
